Hemp protein

Hemp is an incredibly versatile plant that has been used for various purposes for thousands of years. Its early uses were limitless, including weaving, nutrition (a very good source of protein, omega-fatty acids, and high fiber content), papermaking (the Bible is written on hemp paper, and the American Declaration of Independence), and later in medicine. Today, it is used as a construction material, for automotive panels, and as a possible biofuel (diesel and ethanol).

Hemp is a plant from the marijuana genus, and some believe this means that hemp has the same psychoactive properties. This is absolutely not the case; you cannot be intoxicated by hemp powder. The psychoactive nature of marijuana comes from the presence of THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), which is in hemp in negligible amounts. Hemp has a maximum THC content of 0.01%, significantly lower than the legal limit in the EU of 0.2%, and is completely different from marijuana with a THC content of around 12%.

Properties of hemp protein:
• Protein content up to about 50% (contains all essential amino acids)
• High percentage of insoluble fiber (approx. 25%), does not cause bloating in the stomach and intestines and is excellent for people with celiac disease
• Contains omega fatty acids (omega 3, omega 6, and omega 9), with the amounts of omega 3 and omega 6 essential fatty acids almost in perfect proportion to the composition and needs of the human body
• Of minerals, it contains magnesium, potassium, calcium, iron (contains 18 mg per 100 g), phosphorus, and sulfur
• High percentage of antioxidants such as chlorophyll
• Excellent source of protein for vegetarians and vegans, and for those whose health does not allow the consumption of animal proteins
• For people prone to allergies because it does not cause them
• Hemp proteins maintain a mild alkalinity in the body (protein has a pH of 7.0)
